| A stocky, combative Brazilian defender nicknamed 'the Tank', Alex is a strong effective central defender whose aerial ability makes him a rock in defence and a danger from set-pieces. Bought at the beginning of the 2004/5 season after a successful couple of years with Brazilian giants Santos, Alex became an important part of PSV's Champions League success after making the difficult transition to European football, with PSV reaching the last-4 of the Champions League and winning the Dutch league title. Alex only missed a handful of games in 2005/6 as PSV again achieved success on two fronts, retaining their Eredivisie title and reaching the last-16 of the Champions League.
