| One of a number of young emerging Arsenal players who were scouted at youth level and snapped up, Cesc Fabregas was voted player of the tournament at the 2003 Under-17 World Championships and also won the Golden Boot award after his six goals helped Spain to the final. Fabregas is a product of the Barcelona youth academy, and had played one first team game for the Catalan giants, but when Arsenal came in for him, the 16-year old decided on a move to London. In his first season, the Spaniard became the youngest player to appear for Arsenal's first team in a League Cup tie against Rotherham and the club's youngest ever scorer against Wolves but he had to wait to make his Premiership debut. That came in the 2004/5 season when a serious injury to the Brazilian Gilberto Siva left Arsenal with a hole in the centre of midfield. Wenger turned to the 17-year old Fabregas, who made 32 appearances in the league - including 24 starts and 2 goals - and 1 goal in 5 appearances in the Champions League. The youngster coped admirably. A superbly cultured passer of the ball with an eye for goal, Fabregas lined up alongside Vieira in the centre of midfield and despite early fears, managed to adapt to the pace and physical nature of the Premiership. Following the departure of Vieira, Fabregas was the only central midfield fixture of the 2005/6 season and was inspirational at times in Arsenal's journey to the Champions League final. 2006 was also the year he made his international mark, debuting for Spain in the World Cup and earning rave reviews from fans and media alike. Another fine season at Arsenal has seen the young Spaniard linked with a move away from the Emirates. Questions over his future have heightened since Henry's departure. With Fabregas' desire to win trophies at the highest level, the young starlet must be wondering whether his future lies at Arsenal. Still only 20, Fabregas is amongst the brightest emerging midfield talents in the world.
