| Emmanuel Adebayor is another of Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger's great finds. The Togo international has been a real success since joining the Gunners in summer 2006. The lanky striker instantly established himself as a first team regular after showing great form and developing a good partnership with Thierry Henry - who has now left the Emirates Stadium to join Barcelona. Wenger had been after Adebayor since 2003 since he scored a staggering 17 goals from 35 games for former club Metz. He joined Monaco in 2003, even though Arsenal and Italian giants Juventus were interested and he helped the French club reach the UEFA Champions League final in 2004. After much perseverance by the Arsenal camp they finally got their man in 2006 for a reported £7 million. Adebayor has become a fans' favourite for the London club and proved an integral part of the Arsenal squad. He made his international debut in 2000 and represented his country at the 2006 World Cup finals in Germany. The 2006/7 season was a difficult one for the young Togo striker, with injury, a goal drought and disciplinary problems. The most high profile incident being the part Adebayor played in an on-field melee during the League cup final against Chelsea, when he was alleged to have aimed a punch at Frank Lampard. Despite pleading his innocence, Adebayor was fined and banned by the Football Association. Controversy also surrounded his goal celebrations against Tottenham in the London derby, when he was seen to aggravate the home fans. Adebayor finished the season with 12 goals from 44 appearances in all competitions.
