| A tall, powerful young centre-back Daniel Agger has already demonstrated for club and country, a composure and authority that belies his youth. Having made his way through the youth program of Danish top-flight club Brondby, he was required to step into the breach at just 19 following the departure of Swedish international defender, Andreas Jakobsson. He quickly and quietly impressed to become a vital part in Brondby's title winning 2004/5 season. His performances earned him a call up for the national side and he played in Denmark's 4-1 demolition of England in a friendly. An injury kept him out of the first half of the 2005/6 season but he'd done enough to be named 'talent of the year' not only in football but in all Danish sports. A £5.8m move to Liverpool followed in the January of 2006, making him Liverpool's most expensive ever defensive signing. Still recovering from injury, he made just four appearances for Liverpool in that season, but the feeling is that Agger is one for the future and will be used as cover for Sami Hyypia and Jamie Carragher. An injury to Carragher early in the 2006/7 season gave Agger the chance to get some first team football. During this period Agger played well and opened his goal scoring account, scoring a 30-yard screamer against West Ham. As the season progressed Agger became a regular feature in the Liverpool side. The season saw Agger play 42 first team games, including the defeat to AC Milan in the Champions League final. As a result of Agger's outstanding performances, serious doubts have been cast over the future of Sami Hyypia.
