| A quietly confident yet seemingly unflappable keeper, Petr Cech is extremely athletic and agile between the posts and an awesome shot-stopper. Having started his career in earnest at Sparta Prague - where he set a national record of 855 minutes without conceding - Cech moved to Franch club Rennes in 2002. Having already signed for Chelsea in the June of 2004, Cech was one of the Czech Republic's players of the tournament at Euro 2004 in Portugal, keeping five clean sheets during the competition. In the 2004/5 season he was in imperious form as Chelsea won the Premiership - conceding only 13 goals - the Carling Cup and reached the semi-finals of the Champions League. Cech was again in top form in the 2005/6 season, conceding just 25 goals in all competitions and keeping 18 clean sheets in the league as Mourinho's side retained their Premiership crown. Cech played in all three games for the Czech Republic at the 2006 World Cup but despite a breathtaking 3-0 victory over the USA in the first game, a shock defeat to Ghana put their tournament in jeopardy and they failed to make the last-16 when they were beaten 2-0 by eventual winners Italy. Cech started the 2006/7 campaign in typical fashion with a clean sheet against Blackburn. The big keeper's season took a turn for the worse in October after colliding with Stephen Hunt of Reading in which Cech suffered a depressed fracture of the skull. He was rushed to hospital were at one point there was doubt as to whether he would play again. Fortunately for the Chelsea player it proved to be not that serious and he returned to action later in the season. There was no change in the keeper's performances except for the new protective head gear that he was sporting. Chelsea fans will be hoping he can stay injury free and play a key role in their attempt to win trophies next season.
